All about cacao

How does cacao work?

Cacao is working on 3 different levels:

Cacao is a superfood

A lot of people will drink a cup of cacao every morning for its healthy benefits.

It’s a very nutritious cocktail, providing iron (more than chickpeas), copper, calcium (more than milk), manganese, chromium, anti oxydants, fatty acids and MAOIS.

Cacao is a meditation companion

Thanks to the 4 components below, ceremonial cacao is the perfect friend to sit and mediate with.

Theobromine

This is a cousin of the caffeine. While caffeine will push you through the finishing line, leaving you exhausted and with fluttering nerves, the theobromine is keeping you alert for a longer period of time, but doesn’t leave you with the same feeling of “crash” at the end of the day: it’s milder but longer lasting

Theobromine is also a vasodilator, which gives you the physical heart opening sensation.

Magnesium

Cacao has a lot of magnesium in it. Like a ton, more than nuts (1oz of Keith’s cacao has 103.6mg). The magnesium helps you relax and focus inward, allowing you to enter a deep meditative state.

Another very interesting fact is that when combining cacao with yoga, it allows the fascia (the connective tissue that is connecting muscles and organs) to relax and to access the subtle level where the emotions are stored.

The magnesium in cacao is helping me reach very deep states of relaxation.

Phenylethylamine

It activates the release of happy hormones (serotonin and dopamine), giving an instant shot of pleasure and well-being. It is also aphrodisiac, and is a natural antidepressant.

Personally I regularly feel this wave of pure love washing over me after having taken cacao, I call it my “cacao high”.

Anandamide

The word anandamide comes from “ananda” which means bliss is sanskrit.

You only find this endorphin in cacao and black truffles but we also naturally produce it when we feel joy or through the“runner’s high”. It helps enhancing the mood, receding the pain and deceasing fears. It also helps with fertility and pregnancy (source).

All of these combined help bringing you in the perfect state to start the journey inward.

Journeying with cacao

When you drink cacao and create space for the magic to happen, the plant will support you in your healing journey and teach you how to live from the heart.

Mama cacao will surface the different emotional blockages that prevent you from living from the heart, and guide you through the healing process.

This is a very gentle process, and you’re the one who gets to decide to take the journey or not. Cacao will show you the way, but it’s up to you to decide to do the work.

What is the history of cacao?

Where does she come from and how was she consumed?
